The renovation of the Oscar y Juan Galvez Racetrack in Buenos Aires is progressing rapidly, with more than 150 workers dedicating seven days a week to the project. The goal is to revitalize the historic circuit, bringing it back to the forefront of international motorsports. Under the supervision of the City of Buenos Aires government, the construction company AUSA is working in coordination with Tilke Engineers & Architects to redesign the racetrack. This firm has experience working on circuits hosting Formula 1 and MotoGP races worldwide. The project began in January with the demolition of the old pit building and grandstands to make way for a new layout.
Currently, work is ongoing on the foundations of a new 265-meter-long and 23-meter-wide pit structure at the site. The MotoGP track, with a length of 4,300 meters, will include a 7% bank at Turn 4 and an overall average bank of 2-3%. The site requires a total of 295,000 m³ of earthwork, with an estimated top speed of over 330km/h for motorcycles. Completion of the project is expected in December, in time for the MotoGP world championship in late March or early April next year.
While the focus is on hosting MotoGP, plans are also in place to potentially bring back Formula 1 to Buenos Aires. MotoGP’s requirements align with F1’s needs by 95%, with modifications to extend the track length and upgrade the pit building. A demo run by Franco Colapinto in April will showcase the city’s potential to host a grand prix and attract F1 officials. The project progress has been well-received, with construction running ahead of schedule. The development of the Buenos Aires Autodrome promises an exciting future for motorsports in Argentina.
