Cleetus McFarland denied NASCAR superspeedway approval

Garrett Mitchell, also known as Cleetus McFarland, shared a video on his Facebook page addressing NASCAR’s decision not to approve him to run superspeedways in the O’Reilly Series. According to Cleetus, NASCAR felt they did not see enough during a recent race where he tried to pass someone three-wide and had a few spins but did not crash. As a result, NASCAR has requested him to run more ARCA and Trucks races before considering superspeedways. Despite being in NASCAR for only one year, Cleetus remains determined to learn and improve, acknowledging the need for more experience behind the wheel. While he sees the setback as a learning opportunity, he expresses his desire to eventually compete at Daytona and Talladega next year. Danny Lawrence from Richard Childress Racing had anticipated this decision, emphasizing the importance of meeting NASCAR’s expectations and technical requirements. NASCAR’s EVP and Chief Racing Development Officer, John Probst, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the need for Cleetus to demonstrate more on short tracks before being approved for super speedways. The collective goal is to see Cleetus continue to grow and succeed in the racing world in the future.
